Miss Flame Contest Qualifications and Rules


1. Father, brother, mother, sister, step-brother or self must be a member of the I.V.F.A. or I.V.F.A.A. and an active member of a fire department or auxiliary.

2. Entrant must be single and a non parent.

3. Entrant must be 15 years old, and not more then 18, at the time of the I.V.F.A. State Convention. She must be a resident of the State of Indiana.

4. There may only be one entry from each department in the district contest.

5. The department winner will be decided at the discretion of the department.

6. Winner of a department will be entered in the district contest.

7. District winner will be decided by a run-off - if there is more than one entrant in that district.

8. District winner will be entered in the State Miss Flame contest.

9. District winner must have transportation to the state convention and have a chaperone. If the chaperone is not a parent, he/she must be 21 years of age and be responsible for the actions of the contestant.

10. The department and district may have an alternate in the event the winner is unable to fulfill the title.

11. I.V.F.A. Miss Flame will be selected at the state convention.

12. The contestant will be responsible for all expenses at the convention, i.e., rooms, meals and transportation.

13. The dress for judging and activities will be announced by the Miss Flame committee.

14. Judging will be based on fire department and community involvement, appearance, personality, poise, conversational ability and ability to express ideas.


Advantages of being a Miss Flame:

1. Helps prepare you for interviews for jobs and school.

2. Helps give a young lady confidence.

3. Meet a lot of people. (You never know when someone you meet might be able to help get that job you wanted.)

4. Gives you the opportunity to help the community by volunteering. (There are scholarships available for youth who do volunteer work).

5. Helps colleges to see that you do extra curricular work outside of school.


What does a young lady need to know when running for district and state Miss Flame?

1. Know about your fire department.

2. Know something about current events.

3. Be able to tell people about yourself - be able to sell yourself as is you were applying for a job.

4. Be able to tell people about your involvement in your school and community.

5. Smile, and be your personality.

6. Have the gift of gab!

7. Be able to make friends and have fun!!!
